"Culture of Water"
The theme of the second master semester is «Structure and Beauty».
The strip we got assigned to is in Ennetbürgen. Studying the strip shows the lack of acknowledge of Lake Lucerne which I tried to bring back in this project.
Beautiful structure doesn’t need to be a linear construction and the repetition that makes it beautiful. The beauty in the «Water Sanctuary» is the sequence of events that occur at the site and the reason why and how you enter the sanctuary. The beauty is almost the way how structural leading can bring back the beauty of water which was almost forgotten in Ennetbürgen.
As soon as you enter the steps to the path of the sanctuary you realize how your view of the lake changes. You are almost eye to eye with the water. When you walk on the pathway you see the beauty of nature, which is hidden in Ennetbürgen. As you enter the sanctuary the atmosphere gets ker and you enter a stairway which leads into the lake. But still. there are small holes in the walls which let a little bit light through, almost like stars, that leads our way. But still, it gets darker and darker. At the end of the small stairs, you suddenly see a shimmering light. The light shines through an opening which leads to the main room. When you enter the sacred space you see a big headlight which is still under water and lets the sunlight shimmer through and enlightens the room. This place has a very large but shallow pond in the middle of the room that reflects the light almost like a mirror. No movement. The «Water Sanctuary» almost represents the entering of a human soul from the outside with waves and noises to the inside where you find a quiet, peaceful and beautiful place.
The «Water Sanctuary» in Ennetbürgen is a sacred space where people can meditate and find their inner peace with the strong and peaceful element of water and light.
